Can I Paint Over Sanding Sealer
Find out how you ca.
Can i paint over sanding sealer. I applied two coats of sanding sealer then two coats of the acrylic undercoatprimer. To lock it in place apply a thin coat of shellac over the dye. Water-based dye provides a deep color but unlike stain it lacks binder to seal it in place.
First of all you can paint over varnished wood but the wooden surface has to be prepared by sanding and priming it correctly before applying the paint. Of course this only applies if the body panel is in relatively good condition. Even if fillers look smooth they really are not.
You spray it on and it is ready to be painted. Use as the first coat when clear coating raw wood. Lightly sanding not only smooths but actually fills pores.
So when you top it with water-based finish the dye can redissolve and contaminate the topcoat. A week or so ago I posted the question compatability of nitro cellulose based sanding sealer with acrylic paint. Its quick dry feature allows for sealing and topcoating your project in just one day.
Use as the first coat when clear coating painted surfaces. Paint over stained wood trim with as little sanding as possible while still getting a long-lasting finish that is smooth and streak free. Dries in one hour.
Other than the damaging kind you can use any type of paint that you want. Anyway over the weekend a trial and error attempt has proven at least in the short term there has been no reaction. Like I said you can paint over clear coat but youll need to sand off a layer of the clear coat before applying paint.
